Writing about and discussing symbolism is difficult. The analogical nature of symbolism can lead an interpreter to "skip" around and lose themselves, or at least lose the reader in an open thread of associations. There is a danger of drowning in associations, for truly “everything is in everything” as Anaxagoras famously said. This capacity to see patterns can not only lead to strange looks when we make associations people did not expect, but out of control, it can truly be a drowning.
