Based in Montreal, I am an independent scholar, art and film critic, and translator between several languages. I have graduate training in history (PhD McGill 1993) and Orthodox theology, having been received into the Orthodox Church in America in 1987. Also drawing on a broad range of spiritual traditions, I am the author of Traditional Festivals. A Multicultural Encyclopedia (ABC-Clio, 2005), aside from numerous scholarly writings in cultural and intellectual history (see roychristian.academia.edu). Since 2007, I have been programming and co-leading seminars on films as cultural dreamwork, aimed at psychologists but with an anthropological twist owing much to the Toronto School of Communication.
