Anti-Christ comes from αντί and Χριστός (meaning anti and Christos). Χριστός means "anointed one' which the word Christ derives from. 'Αντί' means anti as in 'against' or 'opposite of', but also as 'in place of'. All of this means that an anti-Christ not only opposes Christ but does so by substituting himself for Christ.
